The Hillternship Hub hosts information on all Democratic US House Representative and US House committee internships in addition to all Democratic US Senator and Senate committee internships. Note that some House/Senate committees do not offer internships, since Democrats are in the minority. Some new members of Congress have also not set up their internship pages yet.
[The Hillternship Hub was updated on Sat, Apr 19]
If you were sent to the Hillternship Hub directly from a friend and are also interested in getting a weekly email with all the newest listings for internships in progressive politics, non-profits, and foreign policy/international affairs, subscribe to my weekly Substack, Brandon’s Internships Bulletin, at **brandonsbulletin.substack.com!** The Bulletin will also include nonpartisan Hill positions for the Senate Sergeant-at-Arms and House Chief Admin Office.
As you may know from the Bulletin, one frustration I have with other bulletins/internship sites is they sometimes exclude the most important details. For this Hillternship Hub, I’ve made sure to include info on whether the internship application is open, the deadline, and key details (such as position dates, pay, and time commitment).
See below for how to read the tables and some pro-tips ⬇️
Table Attribute Details
- Status column
- Open and Closed are self-explanatory!
- Not open yet means that the description posted on the Congressional office site is from the last cycle (e.g. the Spring 2025 internship application info is still listed).
- I plan on checking periodically (roughly weekly) to see if the office has updated their site with Summer 2025 details.
- Unclear means that the office’s internship details page may only include a boilerplate form or email with no deadlines listed, or if the office’s internship page hasn’t been updated in a while (e.g. an office with Fall 2024 application details up)
- For these positions, you can potentially apply using the form/instructions listed, but there’s no guarantee the position is open.
- If an office explicitly lists a phone number or email to call regarding internships, you should reach out! Otherwise, many offices discourage you from calling or emailing. In that case…
- …you should probably just wait for the office to post the internship on the House or Senate Internship Bulletin.
- I’ll check “Unsure” offices for updates regularly, and any postings on the House/Senate Bulletins will first go in my weekly Substack bulletin and then be updated here.
- Next Deadline column provides the listed deadline for Summer positions (or Spring if there’s a March-May position open).
- Notes (if any) column provides the details on dates for the position, whether the position is paid, and hourly time commitment if the office provides this information.
✨ Unsolicited pro-tips ✨
- You can probably safely assume that most applications have a rolling deadline, meaning you should apply sooner rather than later. There’s a chance the office may fill the position weeks before the deadline! ⏰
- If you are from the specific Congressional district or state (sometimes for House offices too!), you will receive preference in the member’s application process. Most Dem offices also strongly encourage women + gender minorities, POC, LGBTQ+, and disabled people to apply.
- Any office that don’t include info upfront saying that internships are paid…are likely unpaid. Applications that mention stipends usually means you’re getting paid sub-minimum wage.
- Note: House/Senate offices don’t get a ton of funding unfortunately and the Committee minority party gets even less funding 😔
- Senator Markey’s page includes a ton of great external organizations to apply for summer funding!
- To look just at the House members from your state (unless you want to scroll through 200+ names), you can click the three vertical line filter button, select Filter by Name + District, then type in your state’s abbreviation (e.g. TX).
- You can also search for individual members of Congress or committee names by typing it in the filter; additionally, you can filter by Status to just look at open roles or filter for the word “paid” in Notes to just look at paid positions. Then, click reset to return to the full table.
